Fishing can become a bit burdensome in Genshin Impact due to the Fishing Respawn Rate, making collecting fish a somewhat difficult task.
Following the 2.1 updates in Genshin Impact, the game now provides a new mini-game when it comes to fishing. Here, players are offered a whole new fishing experience.

With the update comes a whole lot of mini-games and side quests, but fishing is becoming a standout feature of the gameplay.
It is a fun fishing experience – catching many sea creatures over Teyvat – and you can gain plenty of surprising achievements along the way.
Although, the update also brought a change to the fishing experience as we knew it. Previously, you would have to swim to catch the fish, this has now been removed.
Instead, players are provided with designated fished rods whereby they can catch fish using a rod and bait.
However, what takes place when the fish run out? Well, you’re going to have to go through the dreaded respawn timer.
With this in mind, this article will explore everything you need to know about fishing respawn rates in Genshin Impact and whether or not you can reset it.
Fishing In Genshin Impact
As previously mentioned, before the updates, players would have to swim after fish in order to catch them.
Although, with the new fishing mini-game updates, users simply have to find fishing locations and use a rod and bait to catch a variety of fish. Specifically, there are 23 new fish varieties!
These can be found in the user’s Serenitea Pot, used for achievements or quests, and can even be turned into fish meat for recipes when cooking.
However, there has also been another change that players should be aware of: the fish respawn rate.
If you’re looking to complete achievements and collect all those free Primogems, then knowing when a location will refill with fish is important.
How To Get A Fishing Rod?
Luckily, getting a fishing rod is the easiest part of fishing. Simply head over to Mondstadt and then talk with Katherine to begin your Exploding Population quest.
From here, you’ll be sent out to a lake located just outside the city where you’ll find Nantuck, who gives you your first fishing rod and bait.
After catching a couple of fish for him, the system will open up; allowing you to get new poles and bait recipes.
If you are looking to improve your fishing skills, then Nuntuck provides you with two fishing spots where you can reel in smaller fish.
What Is The Fishing Respawn Rate?
Essentially, players are able to use the same fishing location twice: once during the day, and once during the night.

However, once the fishing spot is empty, you’ll need to wait three days for the pool to respawn. In the real world, this makes up 72 hours – a long wait, indeed!
Although, there is an alternative to this issue, simply visit other fishing spots located all around the world.
Even without friends in the game, you’re able to use a match-making system offered by the game to find different players and fish across borders.
If you don’t want to fish using different worlds, there are still many opportunities available in your world.
Across 27 fishing locations, there are 20 fish species:
- In Inazuma, there are 8 fishing locations.
- In Liyue, there are 11 fishing locations.
- In Mondstadt, there are 8 fishing locations.
The best time of the day to catch fish would be during the night, since there is usually a higher catch right at night, helping you catch rare fish.
If you’re looking to purchase a new fishing rod, you should know that the buying rate can be intimidatingly large.
For example, to get a new rod, players need to collect 80 specific fish. So, while it is fun catching fish, it can be hard work collecting enough fish within the respawn rate.
Can You Force Reset The Respawn Rate?
The good news is that yes, you can force the fish to respawn by modifying the in-game clock.
These fish work on a day/ night cycle, so if you change the in-game clock from day to night, or vice-versa, then the rate at which the fish respawn should increase in a particular pool of water.
To change the in-game clock, simply go to the Paimon menu and click on the ‘Time’ option. Here, you’ll find a clock displayed with different times of the day marked all around it.
All you have to do is move the big hand of the clock to the particular time of the day you want to change it to, once done confirm your choice and you’re finished.
When doing this, it is important to remember that you’re not able to skip more than one day, as this would mess up the daily reset schedule.
Although, this method is certainly worth doing if you’re looking to grind out as many fish as possible for The Catch, which is the four-star polearm and one of the best weapons for the new character Raiden Shogun.
Final Thoughts…
