Some critics argue that Fortnite encourages children to engage in dangerous behavior. Others claim that the game promotes violence against women. However, these claims are unfounded.
The game does not encourage players to harm others. Instead, the game teaches them how to survive in hostile environments. Players are taught about teamwork, communication, and self-defense. They learn how to work together to overcome challenges and dangers.
Playing Fortnite As A Sport
In April 2018, the LA based startup company, known as PlaYVS, partnered with Epic Games to bring competitive gameplay to high schools and colleges.
They had the aim to bring esports to schools with a league that students can take part in, just like you have with football and basketball leagues.
By just paying $64 per player, a student can be entered into the league to compete with other neighboring schools, just like with any other kind of sport that you know of.Â
Epic Games’ response to this partnership was to say that “We’re excited to partner with PlayVS to offer competitive gaming at school.â€
The company also stated that they would be offering free access to their games to schools in order to promote competition among students.
Since the launch of this Fortnite league, over 13,000 high schools have signed up, while they have been trying to put together a varsity esports team through the league.
To give you a comparison, to what these numbers mean. There are around 14,000 high schools in America which have a football league or program. Thus, 13,000 shows that there is a love for this game, which can be its own sport in its own right.
How Does It Work?
The competition is done through teams of two players. Yet, high schools and colleges can submit as many teams as they want.
The team will play through a series of matches, and the top teams are then invited to take part in the playoffs. By playing in the playoffs, the teams have a chance to grab a spot in the championships. Â
Thus, the teams submitted have a fair chance and get to play against various people all over the country.
