Stardew Valley added new features with its 1.5 updates. The most exciting one was the addition of Ginger Island.

In this article, we’ll help you find out how you can get to Ginger Island with the help of Willy and his boat.
In this guide, we’ll tell you everything you need to know about how you can repair Willy’s boat so you can go to Ginger Island.
However, if you’re new to the game, it’s important to note that this is a late-game update, so it will take some time for you to get there.
If you’ve done everything there is to do in Pelican Town, and we’re here to tell you how you can get the resources needed to fix the boat and head to a new tropical paradise.
What Is Ginger Island?
Ginger Island is the only island within the Fern Islands Archipelago that is accessible to the player. All of the other islands are seen on the way to the island, but the player doesn’t have the opportunity to visit them.
On Ginger Island, you’ll find there are five occupants: Leo, Birdie, Professor Snail, Island Trader, and Mr. Qi.
To interact with any of these characters, you first need to find a way to Ginger Island. To do that, you’ll need the help of Willy and his boat.
Where Is Willy’s Boat?
Willy’s boat is located in the backroom of Willy’s Fish Shop. However, you can only access this area when you’ve completed the Community Center or Jojo Mart Development and achieved eight hearts with Willy.
If you haven’t done either of these tasks yet, you will have to wait a little bit longer before heading out and exploring Ginger Island.
Improving Your Relationship With Willy
If you haven’t reached your desired relationship level with Willy, you can do so as you would with any other character.
Usually, you’ll find him at his fish shop between 9 AM and 5 PM. In the warmer months, he goes fishing until 10 PM, or if it’s colder, he’ll go to the Saloon.
To get an early start, you’ll find that between 6:10 AM and 9 AM, he’ll probably be fishing on the beach.
You can find him during these hours, and to improve your chances of getting more hearts, you can give him gifts. His birthday is on Summer 24, and your relationship will improve if you give him a gift he loves.
These are the gifts Willy loves:
- Catfish
- Octopus
- Sea Cucumber
- Sturgeon
- Pearl
- Pumpkin
- Golden Pumpkin
- Diamond
- Prismatic Shard
- Iridium Bar
- Mead
- Magic Rock Candy
- Rabbit’s Foot
If you give him any of these gifts, you should be able to build up your relationship with him to gain access to the backroom.
However, this is only under the condition that you have completed the Community Center or Joja Mart development.
Repairing Willy’s Boat
You should receive a note from Willy where he asks for your help.
Head over to Willy’s house by the pier, and you’ll see a door that you wouldn’t have noticed before. Inside this door is the backroom of Willy’s Fish Shop, where there is a worn-out boat. Willy requests that you fix it, and you will then begin a quest.
Three different repairs need to be done. You need to fix the boat, repair the anchor, and fix the ticket machine. All of these require different materials, and that’s where we can help you.
Materials Needed For Repairs
To repair the boat, you will need 200 pieces of hardwood.
To get these, you’ll need to cut down mahogany trees, large tree stumps, and cut down logs. Collecting 200 pieces of hardwood is a simple task, so fixing the boat itself shouldn’t be an issue.
You’ll need five iridium bars to repair the anchor. You can craft iridium ore by placing five in a furnace to make one bar. These are the locations where you can find iridium ore:
- Iridium nodes in the Mines
- Mystic stones in the Mines
- Magma geodes
- Omni geodes
- Monster hunting
- Fishing treasure chests
- Meteorites
- Super cucumber fish pond
Occasionally, the Traveling Cart will also sell iridium ore for between 300 and 1000g. Once you get five iridium ore and one coal, you can smelt them in the furnace to create an iridium bar.
However, you may also find that there are rare chances to obtain an iridium bar by slaying a Shadow Shaman, Shadow Brute, Iridium Bat, or Purple Slime.
However, it is generally quicker to simply search for some iridium ore in the mine so you can smelt it in the furnace.
The ticket machine requires five battery packs for repairs. Ideally, you will need a lightning rod or a solar panel to obtain this.
However, it’s important to note that you can only obtain solar panels after you have unlocked Ginger Island.
Although there is a chance that you may be able to purchase a battery pack from the traveling cart, it is still a particularly rare item.
To make a lightning rod, you need to have a foraging level of at least 6.
You need to craft it from an iron bar, refined quartz, and five bat wings. Once you have made it, there’s a good chance that your lightning rod will intercept lightning to supply your battery pack.
You can collect energy from a lightning rod when a thunderstorm fully charges it. Occasionally, Kent and Pam may send the player a Battery pack in the mail.
You should have received three battery packs if you’ve completed the Children’s Bundle in the Community Center.
Finding Ginger Island
Once you have crafted all of the necessary materials, you need to wait one in-game day for the repairs to be completed. Once they are, you’ll be able to head over to Ginger Island for the price of 1000 gold per trip.

Why You Should Visit Ginger Island
On Ginger Island, the player has more access to new features. There are new puzzles, dungeons, and characters to meet. You complete puzzles on Ginger Island using Golden Walnuts, and these help you repair the island.
There’s a new farm, a resort area, a dig site, and so much more.
Final Thoughts
If you’re tired of your day-to-day life in Pelican Town after completing all of your quests, then hopefully, you’ll find a spark of joy in Ginger Island.
As a late-game update, it provides a new experience for players to enjoy and more additions to Stardew Valley’s gameplay. Ginger Island is no small update, and it’s easy to get lost while traveling the island.
